At St Joseph’s School we use a variety of technologies to create innovative solutions to everyday problems.
We provide practical opportunities for students to be users, designers and producers of digital and design technologies. Along with these practical skills students are taught cyber safety skills that help them to be responsible digital citizens. Our Technology curriculum is broken into the following 2 strands:
- Design and Technologies: Where students use the Inquiry Process to investigate, generate and create design solutions for everyday problems. Students use technologies such as LEGO, construction, natural and recycled materials to bring their designs to life and present new solutions to everyday problems.
- Digital Technologies: Where students develop a deep knowledge and understanding of digital , data and information systems. Students are skilled up with the processes associated with creating digital solutions, as well as the social skills to develop positive cyber practises
St Joseph’s School has worked hard to become an accredited esmart school. eSmart Schools provide a framework that guide the introduction of policies and practices to support a cyber safe or eSmart environment.
eSmart Schools was developed by RMIT University in consultation with cyber safety, bullying, education and industry experts from across Australia. An eSmart school is a school where the smart, safe and responsible use of information and communications technology is a cultural norm. Students, teachers and the wider school community are equipped to embrace the best these technologies can offer, while being savvy about the pitfalls.
